GRACE COVENANT CHURCH

The roots of Grace Covenant Church reach back to 1936 when God called Dr. Guy and Eva Brafford to start a church in Kannapolis. First the church met in local homes that they called, "cottage prayer meetings." As God blessed the ministry and as the number of attendees grew, the church moved into a vacant store building in North Kannapolis. Soon after, they built a small building on East 12th street complete with sawdust floors, a potbellied stove, and electricity that was made possible only by stretching an extension cord from the next-door neighbor's house to the church.

On August 2, 1936 the church had its first official Sunday morning church service. Two years later in 1938, the church moved into a new building on North Cannon Boulevard called "The Kannapolis Tabernacle." The church was deeply committed to God's Word and prayer. Hundreds of people accepted Christ through the Kannapolis Tabernacle ministry. Many were healed and baptized in the Holy Spirit.

In 1943 a radio ministry called "The Tabernacle Hour" was launched. Every Sunday morning the Kannapolis Tabernacle Church services were broadcasted over WHIP, Mooresville. God blessed the radio ministry and soon, Dr. Brafford began preaching a daily broadcast over WHIP. Additionally, Dr. Brafford was responsible for three church plants.

In 1954, the Kannapolis Tabernacle Church united with the International Foursquare movement leading Dr. & Mrs. Brafford to change the name of the church to The Kannapolis Foursquare Church. In 1988 after Dr. Brafford began to experience declining health, his son-in-law, Glynn Weatherby, Jr. was appointed as the lead pastor of Grace Covenant Church.

In 1989 the name of the church changed to what we know it as today, Grace Covenant Church. In 2016, upon God's direction, Glynn Weatherby, Jr. transitioned into an associate pastor position at the church as his son, Glynn Weatherby, III moved into the lead pastor position. Pastor Glynn remains the lead pastor of Grace Covenant Church today.
